Why this matters

canonical tells an engine to merge several entrances to the same content into one address, so citation weight is not diluted across parameterised URLs.

How to fix it

Which advice applies depends on what the audit found. The label is the condition that triggers it.

• missing

  Emit a self-referential absolute canonical on every page, with a consistent scheme, host and trailing slash.

• mismatch

  If the consolidation is deliberate you can ignore this; otherwise point it at the page itself. A wrong canonical means this page gets no attribution at all.
